Stats

Stats is a free, open-source macOS system monitor that lives entirely in your menu bar. Instead of opening Activity Monitor every time you want to check what is happening on your Mac, Stats gives you live readings of CPU load, GPU utilization, memory pressure, disk activity, network throughput, hardware temperatures, battery health, and Bluetooth device battery levels — always one glance away. With over 100 million downloads and 39,500 GitHub stars, it is one of the most trusted free utilities in the Mac community.

Key Features

  • 9 Monitoring Modules: CPU, GPU, RAM, Disk, Sensors, Network, Battery, Bluetooth, and Clock — enable only what you need and hide the rest.
  • 13 Customizable Widgets: Each module has its own widget with adjustable display styles, update intervals, and visual layouts to fit your menu bar setup.
  • Apple Silicon Native: Runs natively on M1, M2, M3, and M4 chips as well as Intel Macs, with full support for Apple Silicon GPU metrics and thermal sensors.
  • Process Breakdowns: Click any module to see a popup with the top processes consuming that resource — no need to open Activity Monitor at all.
  • Homebrew Install: Install with a single command — brew install --cask stats — or download the DMG directly from GitHub.
  • 100% Free and Open-Source: Released under the MIT license with no ads, no tracking, no subscriptions, and no in-app purchases of any kind.

Nine Modules, One Menu Bar

Stats is built around a modular architecture — you pick exactly which metrics appear in your menu bar and configure each one independently. The CPU module tracks real-time load, frequency and temperature alongside a live process list. The GPU module covers utilization, VRAM usage, and temperature for Intel, AMD, and Apple Silicon graphics. RAM shows memory pressure, swap usage, and top memory consumers. Disk reports free space, read and write activity, and SMART health status. The Sensors module reads temperature, voltage, power, and fan speeds from across your Mac's hardware. Network measures upload and download speeds plus total data usage. Battery tracks charge level, health, cycle count, and time remaining. Bluetooth shows battery levels for connected devices like keyboards, mice, and headphones. Clock adds a customizable multi-timezone clock right in your menu bar.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is Stats free?

Yes, completely. Stats is free to download and use with no paid tier, no premium modules, and no subscription. It is open-source under the MIT license and maintained entirely by the community on GitHub.

How do I install Stats on Mac?

You can install Stats by downloading the DMG directly from the GitHub releases page, or via Homebrew with the command brew install --cask stats. After installation, launch the app and enable the modules you want from the Stats settings menu.

Stats is running but nothing appears in my menu bar — why?

macOS 26 introduced a new privacy control under System Settings → Menu Bar that requires apps to be explicitly allowed before they can display menu bar items. If Stats is running but invisible, open System Settings → Menu Bar and toggle Stats on.

Does Stats slow down my Mac?

Stats is designed to be lightweight, but some modules are more resource-intensive than others. The Sensors and Bluetooth modules in particular can have a noticeable CPU impact on some Macs. If you notice higher CPU usage, try disabling those two modules first — this alone can reduce Stats energy impact by up to 50%.

How does Stats compare to iStatMenus?

iStatMenus is a polished paid app with a long track record, dedicated support, and some additional features like weather and world clock widgets. Stats covers all the core system monitoring needs — CPU, GPU, RAM, disk, network, sensors, battery — completely free. For most users who want live system metrics in the menu bar without paying, Stats is more than sufficient.
