DuckDisk

DuckDisk is a free, open-source disk space analyzer for Mac, inspired by the Windows tool WizTree. Instead of a colorful map, it shows your storage in a dense table, so you can see which folder owns the space, how many files are inside, and which file types take up the most room. It can scan local disks, OneDrive, Google Drive, and SSH storage in one app.

Key Features

  • Table-First View: Directory size, allocated space, percent of parent, item counts, and file type totals stay visible while you open folders.
  • File Type Totals: Find the extensions using the most space without searching through every folder by hand.
  • Cloud Storage Scanning: Connect OneDrive or Google Drive and DuckDisk scans only metadata, so file contents are not downloaded.
  • SSH Storage: Scan storage on a remote machine over SSH, right next to your local disks.
  • Fast Follow-Up Scans: Refresh one changed file or folder from its context menu, instead of rescanning everything. Cloud scans can also pick up from the last completed scan.
  • Careful Cleanup: Drag files and folders into the delete area, review the list, and track what finished or failed before anything is removed. Cloud items move to the provider recoverable trash.
  • Free and Open Source: DuckDisk is released under the AGPL-3.0 license, so its code is public and it costs nothing to use.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is DuckDisk free?

Yes. DuckDisk is completely free and open source.

How do I install DuckDisk?

You can get DuckDisk from the Mac App Store, or download the DMG for Apple Silicon or Intel from the GitHub releases page and drag it into Applications.

What is the difference between the App Store and direct download versions?

Both support Apple Silicon and Intel Macs and can scan OneDrive and SSH. The direct download also supports Google Drive and full-disk scans with Full Disk Access, while the App Store version does not include Google Drive and scans folders and volumes you choose.

Does DuckDisk download my cloud files?

No. Cloud scans only read storage metadata through the provider API, so large cloud libraries can be analyzed without making every file available offline.

Is DuckDisk notarized by Apple?

Yes. The release is notarized by Apple.

Does DuckDisk need Full Disk Access?

For full-disk scans with the direct download, yes. You can grant it in System Settings under Privacy and Security.

What is the difference between DuckDisk and DaisyDisk?

DaisyDisk is a paid app built around a colorful chart. DuckDisk is free and uses a table-first view with exact numbers. If you want a free chart-style app, try OpenDisk or GrandPerspective.
