MacFader

MacFader is a small Mac app that turns the edges of your trackpad into sliders. Slide a finger along an edge to change the volume, the screen brightness, or the keyboard light. The four corners can run quick actions, such as mute or Mission Control. It works with a MacBook trackpad and with a Magic Trackpad. You can try every edge free in the setup tour, and then pay $3.99 once to keep using it.

Key Features

  • Volume and Brightness: By default, the right edge controls volume and the left edge controls brightness. With more than one screen, the left edge changes the screen your pointer is on.
  • External Monitors: Brightness works on built-in and Apple displays, and on other monitors over DDC/CI.
  • Keyboard Light: The top edge adjusts your keyboard backlight by default.
  • Music Controls: Swipe along an edge to skip tracks, or double-tap a corner to play and pause.
  • Pick Every Edge: Set each edge to volume, brightness, keyboard light, microphone level, seek, switch apps, or nothing. Skip tracks is also available on the top and bottom edges.
  • Fifteen Corner Actions: Double-tap a corner to mute, open Mission Control, lock the screen, sleep the display, start the screen saver, take a screenshot, run a shortcut, or press your own keys. By default, the top-right corner mutes your sound.
  • A Setup for Each App: Give any app its own edges and corners, or turn MacFader off in games and drawing apps.
  • Fine Steps: Hold Shift and Option while you slide to make smaller changes.
  • Palm Protection: MacFader ignores palm-sized touches and touches right after you type.
  • Feel and Limits: Choose light, medium, or strong ticks as you slide, and set a volume ceiling for headphones.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is MacFader free?

Not fully. You can download MacFader free and try every edge and corner in the setup tour. To keep using them after the tour, you buy a license for $3.99. It is a one-time payment with no subscription and no account. You can ask for a refund within 7 days of buying.

Which Macs does MacFader run on?

MacFader needs a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) and macOS 13 or later. Intel Macs are not supported.

Does it work with a Magic Trackpad?

Yes. It works with the built-in trackpad on a MacBook and with a Magic Trackpad.

How many Macs does one license cover?

One Mac at a time. To move your license, open Settings, go to License, choose Deactivate on the old Mac, and enter your key on the new one.

Are updates free?

Yes. Every MacFader 1 update is free for license holders. The app checks for updates once a day and asks before installing one.

Why does it ask for Accessibility access?

MacFader uses it to send media keys and to ignore the edges while you type. Nothing about how you use your trackpad leaves your Mac. The app goes online only to check your license and look for updates.
