NotchNow
Notch Now is a Mac notch app for saving files, links, images, and text for later. Drag something up to the notch, and it goes into your inbox and the tray puts itself away. When you are ready, hover over the notch to bring it back. You can add a note or a reminder to anything, so you know where to pick up. It works with or without a physical notch, and everything stays on your Mac.
Key Features
- Drag to the Notch: As a drag nears the top of the screen, the tray opens to meet it. Drop, and the item is written to disk before the tick appears.
- Save Copied Content: Copied something instead? Press Control Option V to save it to your inbox.
- Tray That Gets Out of the Way: After a drop, the notch just shows a count. There is no window to close and no notification.
- Preview and Open: Hover to peek, press Space for Quick Look, and press Return to open the original.
- Notes and Reminders: Add a note to any item, or press L so it returns to the top of the inbox when it is due.
- Open From Any App: Press Control Option Space to open the inbox, or use right-click, Services, Save to Notch Now. Shortcuts, Raycast, Alfred, and scripts can save items with a notchnow:// link.
- Undo and Done: Press Command Z to undo the last Done or Delete. Done items stay recoverable until you empty them.
- Private and Light on Permissions: There is no account, analytics, or cloud sync. It does not need Accessibility, Automation, or Screen Recording access.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is Notch Now free?
No. Notch Now is a paid app on the Mac App Store, with no free trial and no in-app purchases. The developer lists the price as A$14.99 (Australian dollars), and the App Store shows the price for your region.
What macOS version does Notch Now need?
Notch Now needs macOS 14 or later. It is a universal app that runs on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
Does my Mac need a notch?
No. On a display with a notch, Notch Now sits around the camera. On other displays, a small tray opens from the top centre of the screen.
Is anything uploaded?
No. Everything stays on your Mac, in your macOS user account, and the app has no account, analytics, or cloud sync. Local storage is not separately encrypted.
What can I save in Notch Now?
Files up to 250 MB, PNG and TIFF clipboard images up to 25 MB, text up to 1 MB, and HTTP, HTTPS, and mailto links. You can drop up to 50 items at once. Formatting in saved text is not kept, and app packages are not supported yet.
What happens if the original file goes missing?
If a file was linked, its row says so. Files from temporary places, the Trash, or external drives are copied, so they stay safe. You can also choose to always copy files in Settings.
Are there other notch apps for Mac?
Yes. NotchNook is a paid app that adds music, calendar, and a file tray to the notch, and Boring Notch is a free, open-source option.
